MOTHERING YOURSELF ON MOTHER?S DAY

May 11, 2006 | by Natalie Caine | One Comment

I am sitting in my empty nest with no little hands to hold or jumping feet to bounce into my Sunday morning bed. No
colorful hand made cards with the letters that were always crooked and multi sized, saying I LOVE YOU, MOM
HAPPY MOTHER

    Dear Natalie:
I loved your Mothering Yourself message. Those are really great ideas for all of us. I also like the message I read about working yourself into exhaustion over emotion is not noble. We must treat ourselves to “our favorite things,” so to speak if we are going to remain human and valuable to those around us. Sometimes, even if our children are gone, we must remember that there
are others out there who need us, maybe it’s just the store clerk , who hasn’t had a nice comment all day, who you say something nice too. Maybe your comment will make all the difference in the world. Maybe it will be an Aunt you visit in the nursing home, or even the decision not to beep your horn at the slow driver in front of you. If we can keep ourselves positive, put the pain on the top shelf, how much better off we’ll all be.
