Empty Nest in Two Weeks

August 2, 2007 | by Natalie Caine | 3 Comments

My daughter has always lived in this house. In two weeks she will be a freshman living in a dorm far away. I will be here not hearing her voice, footsteps, or seeing her jump up on the kitchen counter as I mix brownies for the school picnic.
This is the opening of a mother talking with me on the phone. Sandy is trying to come to grips with her only daughter leaving the nest.
She talked about the check list and her daughter

Thank you soooo much for your wonderful blog….found it in random searching about empty nest.
Our son will be leaving for college a week from today.
The tears are flowing much more lately!
I cannot imagine the house without him!
I’ll be back to read more later….some wonderful posts here….so glad I found you!

I’m feeling SO MUCH the same today. My daughter is leaving in three weeks. Yesterday, I took her for a doctor’s appointment – and kept wishing I could turn back time and have her be little again. I start to cry as I write this…I know the grief passes, but it’s such a challenge to be in it.

“It’s over, the little girl (boy, in my case) and mommy.”
That says it all for me. I am so sad. He’s been gone a week, and only 1 phone call from him. In my mind, I know that means he is successfully making the transition, but I sure do feel forgotten right now.
I do have a hobby I am enjoying and my husband and I had already started date nights in preparation for this. We are already enjoying the freedom.
But I am still sad that it’s over.
