SHE FINALLY FELL ASLEEP

June 15, 2006 | by Natalie Caine | One Comment

I peaked in her room and she was curled up on her side sleeping. I just stood there, smiled, saw the little one still in her
21 year old soft face and said to myself she finally fell asleep. Those words reminded me of rocking her to sleep
when she was so tiny. Isn

After reading “She finally fell asleep” I had a similar feeling, but in an opposite way. My 18-year old son has chosen to work construction in Montana which is 1852 miles from our home in Ohio. He & I drove his car for 3 days to get there & we had 3 nights before he started working 10-hour days. On my last night in Montana I woke up during the night & simply stared @ his face as he slept. I felt 18 years come crashing down & noticed that his face still looked like that baby face I remember. I thought that when he comes home in August for a week visit he’ll no longer look that way. He will have grown up enormously not so much in body, but in spirit. A chapter has passed in my life; my youngest has flown the nest & I will be lonely without him. But I also think this will be one of the most enlightening things he can do for himself.
